Marrakech Airport Transfer: Arriving at Menara

A Marrakech airport transfer is the car from Marrakech-Menara (RAK) to the Medina, the Palmeraie, or a first stop such as Agafay. Here is the arrival itself: the walk through the terminal, a taxi versus a black car booked ahead, and what to have ready before you land.
At a glance
- Airport: Marrakech-Menara (RAK). One terminal.
- Meet point: The public arrivals hall, after bags and customs.
- Taxi: The rank outside. Agree the fare before the bags go in.
- Booked car: A private black car for your party. Send the flight number.
- Riad Bab Atlas: Free black car for 1–5 guests staying 3+ nights; 6–8 guests +€50 EUR; max 8 guests.
- Any other transfer: No public price. Request a quote.
Arrival steps at Marrakech-Menara (RAK)
Menara is a single terminal on the southwest edge of the city. The walk from the aircraft to the kerb is short compared with a large hub. The queue, when there is one, is at passport control.
- Follow the signs from the gate to passport control. Have the passport you travelled on, not a photo of it.
- Collect bags at baggage claim. Keep medication, a charger, and a change of clothes in the bag you carry.
- Walk through customs. You are then in the public arrivals hall. This is the meeting point.
- If you booked our black car airport transfer, the driver meets you in that hall. The name on the board matches the name on the booking. Send the flight number ahead so the pickup follows the landing.
- If you need dirhams or a local SIM, do that in the terminal before you commit to a taxi. Then leave with the booked car, or join the taxi rank outside.
What to expect in the arrivals hall

- Several flights can land close together. Passport control is the slow part, not the belt.
- People will offer a taxi inside the hall. A booked driver has your name. A taxi is the official rank, not the first person who reaches for the suitcase.
- The car in the photo is the black Mercedes V-Class we use for Menara transfers. It is your party only, not a shared van.
- The medina, including Jemaa el-Fna and the Koutoubia in the photograph, is the nearer drop. Riad Bab Atlas is in the Palmeraie, a longer drive than the square.
Taxi or a pre-booked black car
Both can get you into Marrakech. They are different jobs. Our Marrakech private driver guide covers day trips and how a reserved car differs from a city taxi. This is the airport choice on its own.
- A petit taxi is a short hop inside the city. Agree the price before you get in, or ask for the meter. At the airport, use the taxi rank and agree the fare before anyone loads the bags.
- We do not publish a taxi tariff. If a driver names a price you do not want, you can decline before the boot closes.
- A pre-booked transfer is reserved for your party. It waits on the flight. You are not put in a shared van, and you are not left to restart at the rank if the plan changes. Book it on the Marrakech private driver page.
- Between towns, a grand taxi is often a shared seat with shared timing. That is not an airport pickup.
- Choose the booked car for the Palmeraie, a group, a lot of luggage, a night landing, or a first stop outside the city.
How long the drive takes
Menara sits just outside the city, so none of these is a cross-country trip. Traffic, a busy arrivals wave, and the exact door you are going to all change the clock. We do not publish a guaranteed minute count for the medina or the Palmeraie.
The Medina
Jemaa el-Fna and the medina are the shorter hop from the airport. Evening traffic around the square is what stretches it. If the square is the first stop, say so. A driver who thinks you want the Palmeraie will take the other road.
The Palmeraie

The Palmeraie is a longer drive from the terminal than the medina. That drive is why the car is booked with the house, not left to the rank. Riad Bab Atlas is in Clos De La Palmeraie: 4 bedrooms, 2 pools in the Palmeraie. The pools are shared. Guests share the house with anyone else staying at the same time. It is not a hotel.
Agafay

Agafay is the stone desert, about 40 km southwest of Marrakech and roughly 45 minutes to an hour from the city. From the airport it is still a desert transfer, not a medina hop. If Agafay is the first stop, say so when you request the quote. The day itself is the Agafay desert day tour, and you can sleep in Marrakech the same night.
Luggage
- Tell us how many guests and how many large bags when you inquire. The car is matched to that, not guessed at the kerb.
- The V-Class in the photograph is the car we send for Menara. The side door is for people and bags. You are not splitting the group into two taxis unless you asked for that.
- A taxi boot fills quickly. If a driver wants a second car, agree it before you split up.
- Carry passports and medication yourself. Do not put them in a bag you cannot see.
- On a Riad Bab Atlas stay the group maximum is 8 guests. That cap is the house, not a guess about the boot.
Night arrivals
Send the flight number. We meet late landings at Menara and plan the pickup around the landing, not a taxi-stand clock. The hall is quieter at night, which makes a name board easier to find and a random offer harder to judge.
- Have the address written down: Riad Bab Atlas, Clos De La Palmeraie, Marrakech 40000, or the hotel you actually booked.
- A pre-booked car is the calmer plan after dark. You are not starting from the queue.
- If the flight is delayed, the flight number is what we follow. You do not need to renegotiate a taxi while the belt is still moving.
Tipping
- A tip for the driver is appreciated and not required. It is not added to the quote.
- If someone at baggage claim offers to carry a bag, agree the amount before they touch it. You can also wheel it yourself.
- Do not tip in advance to “reserve” a taxi. Pay the fare you agreed when you arrive.
Cash and a SIM
- The currency is the Moroccan dirham. A taxi at the rank expects cash. Agree the fare in dirhams.
- ATMs are in the terminal. Use one before you leave if you will pay a taxi and do not already have dirhams.
- A transfer you book with us is confirmed in the quote, so you are not counting notes at the kerb to start the trip.
- Phone shops in the terminal sell local SIMs. An eSIM set up before you fly skips that stop. We do not sell SIMs and we do not publish a shop price.
- Once you have data, WhatsApp is the simplest way to reach us. You can also use the inquiry form or email guidedtourstomorocco@gmail.com.
Staying at Riad Bab Atlas
The airport car for guests at Riad Bab Atlas is part of the stay, not a separate taxi receipt. A free black car for 1–5 guests staying 3+ nights; 6–8 guests +€50 EUR; max 8 guests. The house is 4 bedrooms, 2 pools in the Palmeraie. The pools are shared. The rate is €300 a night with a 3-night minimum. Breakfast is the first morning only.
That free transfer is for the stay. It is not a public rate for every Marrakech airport transfer. If you are going to another hotel, or you are not staying three nights, tell us the job and we quote it. Send dates before any payment. Other guests may be in the house at the same time.
How to book the transfer
- Flight number, landing date, and how many guests.
- The drop: Riad Bab Atlas, another hotel, the medina, or Agafay first.
- How many large bags.
- Send it on the black car and airport transfer page, the inquiry form, by email at guidedtourstomorocco@gmail.com, or on WhatsApp.
There is no published price for a standalone airport pickup. We quote that job before you commit. Read the private driver guide if the same car should stay for a day in Ourika, Agafay, or Essaouira.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I meet a pre-booked Marrakech airport transfer?
In the public arrivals hall at Marrakech-Menara (RAK), after passport control, baggage claim, and customs. Send the flight number when you inquire. The driver meets that landing, not a fixed taxi-stand time.
Should I take a taxi or book a car at Marrakech airport?
A taxi from the rank is fine for a short hop if you agree the fare before the bags go in. A pre-booked black car is your party only, waits on the flight, and is the calmer plan for the Palmeraie, a lot of luggage, or a night landing. It is not a shared van.
How long from Menara to the Medina, Palmeraie, or Agafay?
The medina and Jemaa el-Fna are the shorter drive from Menara. The Palmeraie, including Riad Bab Atlas, is a longer drive from the terminal than the medina. Agafay is about 40 km southwest of Marrakech, roughly 45 minutes to an hour from the city, so from the airport it is a desert transfer rather than a medina hop. Evening traffic changes all three. We do not publish a guaranteed minute count for the medina or the Palmeraie.
Do you meet night flights at Marrakech-Menara?
Yes, when you send the flight number. Pickup is planned around the landing, including a late arrival. You do not start from the taxi queue.
Is the airport transfer free at Riad Bab Atlas?
A stay includes a free black car for 1–5 guests staying 3+ nights. For 6–8 guests the airport transfer is +€50 EUR. Maximum 8 guests. The house is 4 bedrooms and 2 pools in the Palmeraie, and the pools are shared. The rate is €300 a night with a 3-night minimum. Breakfast is the first morning only.
How much is a Marrakech airport transfer if I am not staying at the riad?
There is no public price for a standalone transfer. Tell us the flight, the address, and how many guests, and we quote that job before you commit. A full-day driver is a different job from an airport pickup.
