The Palmeraie, Marrakech: Where to Stay and What to Know

A riad Palmeraie Marrakech stay is a palm-grove stay, not a medina stay. The square, the souks, and the airport are all a drive. This is what the Palmeraie is, how long those drives usually take, and how to choose where to stay in the Palmeraie without guessing from a map pin.
At a glance
- Where: North and northeast of the medina, outside the city walls.
- To Jemaa el-Fna: About 9 km by road. Often 15 to 25 minutes in clear traffic, closer to half an hour when it is busy.
- To Menara airport: Often about 12 to 17 km, commonly 25 to 40 minutes. The exact gate changes it.
- The tradeoff: Space, palms, and a pool. Every souk visit is a car trip.
- Riad Bab Atlas: 4 bedrooms, 2 pools in the Palmeraie. The pools are shared. €300 a night, 3-night minimum, sleeps up to 8.
What the Palmeraie is
Palmeraie Marrakech is the palm grove on the north and northeast edge of the city, between the roads toward Fez and Casablanca. People also see the name Annakhil on maps. Date palms were planted here centuries ago. It is not a lane inside the ramparts, and it is not a single resort: date palms, olives, earth tracks, walled gardens, golf, hotels, and riads. Two addresses both called “Palmeraie” can be a long way apart. A map pin in the middle of the grove is not your door.
On the ground it is quiet next to Jemaa el-Fna. You do not step out into a souk. You step out into a lane, and then you need a car. Stay here when the pool and the quiet are the point. Stay in the medina when you want the square on foot every morning.
Drive time to the Medina and the airport
Treat every minute below as a range. Traffic on the ring road, a busy arrivals wave, and which gate you are actually going to all move the clock. We do not publish a guaranteed minute count for the medina or the Palmeraie.
The Medina
From a typical Palmeraie door to Jemaa el-Fna is about 9 km by road. In clear traffic that is often 15 to 25 minutes. When the roads into the old city are busy, plan closer to half an hour. It is not a walk. If you will go in more than once in a day, say so. A driver who thinks you are staying near the square will not be waiting at a palm-grove gate.
Menara airport
Marrakech-Menara (RAK) is on the southwest edge of the city. The Palmeraie is north and northeast, so the airport drive crosses town. Many addresses are on the order of 12 to 17 km from the terminal, commonly about 25 to 40 minutes by car. Deeper gates and evening traffic sit at the long end of that range. It is a longer drive than the medina drop. The Marrakech airport transfer guide covers the arrivals hall, a taxi versus a booked car, and night landings. If the Palmeraie is the address on the booking, say so. The road is not the medina road.
Riad or hotel in the Palmeraie
A Palmeraie hotel or resort usually means a reception desk, larger grounds, sometimes a golf course, and sometimes a shuttle into town a few times a day.
A riad in the Palmeraie is smaller: fewer bedrooms, a garden, and a terrace. Ask how many bedrooms are in use, and whether guests share the pool. At Riad Bab Atlas, they do. You still need a plan for the car, because a riad here does not run a city shuttle all evening.
Choose the medina if this is a short first trip built around the souks and the square. Choose the Palmeraie if you want space and a quieter night, and you are willing to ride in for the monuments. Do not pick the grove and then expect to wander home from dinner.
Where to stay in the Palmeraie

Riad Bab Atlas is our riad in Clos De La Palmeraie, Marrakech 40000. It is 4 bedrooms, 2 pools in the Palmeraie. The pools are shared by guests staying at the riad. It sleeps up to 8. It is not a hotel. You can ask for the bedrooms you need, and other guests may be staying at the same time.
The rate is €300 a night, with a 3-night minimum. Breakfast is the first morning only, not every morning of the stay. A stay of 3 nights or more includes a free black-car airport pickup for 1–5 guests. For 6–8 guests the airport transfer is +€50. Book direct on the riad page for the best rate we offer, and for WhatsApp contact with the host. Send dates on the inquiry form. We confirm availability before any payment.
What to do nearby
The grove itself is the first outing: earth tracks between palms and walls, with the Atlas on the horizon in clear weather. Camel rides and quad rides are the usual short activities on those tracks. Operators in the grove run them. They are not included in the nightly rate, and we do not publish a price. Ask when you inquire if you want one quoted.
For gardens, the Palmeraie Museum (the Benchaâbane Foundation) is in the grove on the Fez road: art in old farm buildings, and a walled garden of citrus, cactus, roses, and water. Check current hours. We do not publish a ticket price. Jardin Majorelle is not here. It is in Gueliz, so it is a stop on a day in town, not a walk from the grove. Golf courses sit inside the Palmeraie. We do not sell tee times.
For a full day out, two trips leave cleanly from a Palmeraie base and still get you back the same night. Agafay is the stone desert west of Marrakech, about 40 km and roughly 45 minutes to an hour from town. There are no tall dunes, and you sleep in Marrakech the same night. Ourika is the green Atlas day to the south: a river, terraces, and villages. When the path is dry, the day can include the walk toward the Setti Fatma waterfalls. After rain, the valley is the visit. Either day is a booked car, not a spur-of-the-moment taxi from a palm-grove lane.
Getting around
The Palmeraie is spread out. A petit taxi is easy at Jemaa el-Fna and thinner at a quiet gate after dinner. Agree the fare before the bags go in, and do not assume a taxi is waiting for a night flight.
The practical plan is a car booked ahead. Our Marrakech private driver page is the black car for Menara pickup, the hop between a city hotel and the riad, a day in Agafay or Ourika, or the ride back from dinner. It is your party only, not a shared van. Read the airport transfer guide before you land, and send the flight number so the pickup follows the landing rather than a taxi-rank clock.
How to book a Palmeraie stay
- Check-in, check-out, and how many guests.
- How many bedrooms you need. Other guests may be staying at the same time, and the two pools are shared.
- The flight number if you want the airport car, and how many large bags.
- Any day you already know you want: Agafay, Ourika, or a driver for the medina.
- Send it on the Riad Bab Atlas page, the inquiry form, by email at guidedtourstomorocco@gmail.com, or on WhatsApp.
The form is a request. It does not charge a card. We confirm the dates, then send the payment link. Book direct for the best rate we offer, and for WhatsApp contact with the host about the gate, the flight, and the day.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the Palmeraie in Marrakech?
North and northeast of the medina, between the roads toward Fez and Casablanca. It is a palm grove of walled gardens, hotels, and riads, not a quarter inside the city walls. You do not walk there from Jemaa el-Fna.
How far is the Palmeraie from the Medina?
A typical door is about 9 km by road from Jemaa el-Fna. In clear traffic that is often 15 to 25 minutes. When the ring road is busy, plan closer to half an hour. The grove is large, so the exact gate changes the clock. These are approximate ranges, not a guaranteed arrival time.
How long from Marrakech airport to the Palmeraie?
Menara (RAK) is southwest of the city. The Palmeraie is north and northeast. Many addresses are on the order of 12 to 17 km, commonly about 25 to 40 minutes by car. Evening traffic and the exact gate move that. We do not publish a guaranteed minute count.
Is a riad or a hotel better in the Palmeraie?
A hotel or resort usually means a reception desk, larger grounds, and sometimes a shuttle into town. A riad is smaller. Riad Bab Atlas is 4 bedrooms and 2 pools in the Palmeraie. The pools are shared. Other guests may be staying at the same time. It is not a hotel. If you want to walk to the souks every morning, stay in the medina instead.
What does a stay at Riad Bab Atlas include?
€300 a night, with a 3-night minimum. It sleeps up to 8. Breakfast is the first morning only. A stay of 3 nights or more includes a free black-car airport pickup for 1–5 guests. For 6–8 guests the airport transfer is +€50. Request dates on the site. We confirm availability before any payment.
How do I get around the Palmeraie?
The grove is spread out, and taxis are thinner at a quiet gate than they are at Jemaa el-Fna. Book a car for the airport, the medina, and any day out. The private driver page and the Marrakech airport transfer guide explain how that works. Send the inquiry on this site, email guidedtourstomorocco@gmail.com, or use WhatsApp.
