A Marrakech day tour is a full day with a driver and a return before dinner. It is not the start of a desert crossing. The days we run are the Agafay desert day tour, the Ourika Valley and Atlas day, the Essaouira day tour, the hot-air balloon, and a private driver when the day is yours to design. The full set, including multi-day routes, sits on our packages.
The balloon is from $160 per person, including private driver pickup and drop-off, the sunrise flight, and royal breakfast. Agafay, Ourika, Essaouira, and a driver for a day you invent: Ask for price. Send the date, the pickup door, and how many guests. We quote that day before you commit. Book on this site, by phone at 412-708-6866, or by email at guidedtourstomorocco@gmail.com. We do not send the booking to a marketplace to finish it.
How a day from Marrakech is built
Pickup is from Riad Bab Atlas in the Palmeraie, or from another Marrakech hotel you name when you inquire. The car is for your party. The driver knows the day’s road: west to Agafay, south into the Atlas, or west again on the longer highway to the Atlantic. You are not sharing the timing with another group’s breakfast.
Most of these days are a morning departure and an evening return. The balloon flies at sunrise and finishes late morning. Essaouira uses the most road time, about three hours each way. Ourika is villages, the river, and the waterfalls when the path is open. Agafay is close enough that sunset in the stone hills can still end at your door in Marrakech. If you land the same morning, read the Marrakech airport transfer first. A day tour starts after you have slept.

Agafay is a stone desert, not the Sahara
Agafay lies about 40 kilometers southwest of Marrakech. The drive is often 45 minutes to an hour, depending on where you start and on the traffic leaving the city. The ground is rock, earth, and low ridges, with almost no trees. Camels work here, and camps sit in the folds of the hills. There are no tall sand dunes. If a photograph of Agafay looks like a sea of sand, it is the wrong desert.
The Sahara you see on posters is Erg Chebbi, near Merzouga, roughly 550 kilometers and a long day of driving over the Tizi n’Tichka pass. That landscape needs nights on the road. Our 4-day Marrakech to Fes Sahara tour and the 10-day Grand Morocco tour are the routes that reach it. Calling Agafay the Sahara sends people home thinking they missed a dune that was never on the day’s map.
The Agafay day is lunch in that stony landscape and a return the same evening. It suits a first or last day, without a 4 a.m. departure toward the dunes. The Agafay and Merzouga comparison walks through distance and season in more detail. The day itself is ask for price. Open the Agafay day tour page and send the date.
Ourika Valley and the High Atlas
South of the city the land rises into the High Atlas. The Ourika Valley is the day we use for that direction: Berber villages along the river, cooler air than the medina, and a walk toward the waterfalls when the path is open. After winter rain the valley is green. In a dry month the river is lower and the villages are the point of the drive, not a swimming stop. We do not promise the waterfall path on every date. If it is closed, the day still has the valley, the villages, and the mountain road.
This is the right day if you want mountains without committing to the Tizi n’Tichka crossing that starts the multi-day Sahara routes. You are back in Marrakech for the evening. Wear shoes that can handle a path, and bring a layer. The café terraces above the valley can be windy even when Jemaa el-Fna is hot. Children who can walk a short uneven path do well here. A stroller does not.
The Ourika day is ask for price. Read the Ourika Valley tour and tell us the date and the group. If you would rather stop where you like and skip a fixed valley plan, that is a private driver day, also ask for price, and we will say so in the quote.

Essaouira, a full day on the Atlantic

Essaouira is the Atlantic port west of Marrakech: ramparts, a medina built for the wind, blue boats in the harbor, and a long beach outside the walls. The drive is the commitment. Plan on about three hours each way, so the day is an early start and a return after dark is normal in winter. You still sleep in Marrakech. You do not overnight in Essaouira on this day tour. The 10-day route is the one that can keep a night on the coast.
The wind is part of the place, so bring a light layer even in spring. The road takes the morning and the late afternoon, which means a beach-only day is a poor use of the drive. Details and the request form are on the Essaouira day tour page. The day is ask for price.
Hot-air balloon from $160
The sunrise balloon is the one day tour with a published starting price: from $160 per person. The morning includes private driver pickup and drop-off from Riad Bab Atlas or your hotel, the flight, and royal breakfast. Send the date and how many guests are flying. We confirm the morning once the operator clears the weather window. A balloon that cannot fly is not a morning we pretend will happen.
Pickup is before dawn. A typical flight is about 45 to 60 minutes in the air, and with the drive, the briefing, and breakfast you are back for lunch. Closed shoes and layers matter, and a loose scarf can catch on landing. Tell us children’s ages when you inquire, because each operator sets that rule. The balloon guide describes the morning. Book from the hot-air balloon page. If a date changes the from $160 rate, the quote says so before you pay.

A private driver when the day is yours
Some days are not a named tour. You may want the medina with a patient clock, a list of workshops, a garden, or the Atlas road with stops you choose. That is a private driver: one chauffeur and a car for your party, for the hours we agree. It is also how airport pickups work, which is a different job from a full day and is described on the airport transfer page. A full day on the road is ask for price. Fuel and the agreed hours are part of the quote, not a surprise at the door.
A petit taxi is a short hop inside the city. A private driver is reserved and stays for the day: Ourika one morning, Agafay the next, Essaouira after that, each day confirmed on its own. Request the car on the private driver page. The airport car that comes with three nights at the riad is a different rule, explained on the transfer page. It does not cover these days. Apart from the balloon’s from $160 per person, a driver day is ask for price.

A useful order for three or four days
Give the balloon the clearest morning, because weather can move it. Put Essaouira on a day when an early start is easy, not the morning after a late flight. Ourika fits a day when you want to be outdoors and back for a calm evening. Agafay fits a late-afternoon light and a return after sunset. None of those four days should be stacked into one date. The roads do not allow it, and the point of a day tour is to be in one landscape long enough to notice it.
A Marrakech week can be the riad, one mountain day, one stone-desert day, and either the coast or the balloon. If the dunes are the reason for the trip, use our packages for the nights at Erg Chebbi and keep Agafay as the day-tour desert. Standard and Luxury on those routes are ask for price. October through December and March through May are the comfortable months for walking. Tell us the month when you inquire.
Questions we actually get
Is Agafay the Sahara?
No. Agafay is a stone desert of rock and bare hills about 40 km southwest of Marrakech, close enough to return the same evening. The sand dunes of the Sahara, at Erg Chebbi near Merzouga, are a multi-day drive over the High Atlas. A day tour cannot reach them.
Which Marrakech day tours can I book?
The Agafay stone-desert day, the Ourika Valley and High Atlas day, the Essaouira Atlantic day, a sunrise hot-air balloon, and a private driver for a day you design. Each tour has its own page. The balloon is from $160 per person. Every other day tour is ask for price.
How much do Marrakech day tours cost?
The hot-air balloon is from $160 per person, including private driver pickup and drop-off, the sunrise flight, and royal breakfast. Agafay, Ourika, Essaouira, and a private driver for the day are ask for price. Send the date and the number of guests and we quote that day before you commit.
Do day tours include a driver, and will I be back the same night?
Yes. Each day leaves Marrakech in the morning with a driver for your party and returns the same evening, except the balloon, which is a sunrise morning and is back by late morning. You sleep in Marrakech. Pickup can be Riad Bab Atlas or another hotel you name.
Can I do Agafay, Ourika, and Essaouira in one day?
No. They sit in three different directions, and Essaouira alone is about three hours each way. Plan one outing per day. A private driver can stay with you for the day you choose. Tell us the order of days when you inquire.
What if I want the Sahara dunes and not only a day from Marrakech?
Book a multi-day route. The 4-day Marrakech to Fes Sahara tour and the 10-day Grand Morocco tour from Riad Bab Atlas both reach Erg Chebbi. Day tours stay inside a single day from the city. Agafay remains the stone desert, not a substitute for those dunes.
